Service Learning 

 

The National Service-Learning Clearinghouse defines service-learning as "a teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen communities."

 

You can download the use the Chattanooga State Service Hours Tracking Form to document service and volunteer hours.

 

Students at Chattanooga State have many opportunities to work on service learning projects including food drives, Habitat for Humanity, and others.  Provide evidence of your service learning projects, whether part of a classroom activity or an extracurricular project. Visit The Volunteer Center website to locate an abundance of opportunites in greater Chattanooga.

 

Below is a video for a Chattanooga State service learning project titled Embrace Haiti. A student involved in this project might include the following video, a narrative about his or her work on the project as well as a gallery of photos.

This hour-long ceremony included music, pictures, speakers and moments of reflection. Students and staff also had the opportunity to donate as well as learn about a project between Chattanooga State, UTC and area businesses and charities to provide much needed medical relief.
